"Easy To Be Hard" from Hair

(2,682 posts)I love the music of Hair! I was fortunate enough a long time ago, to find an 8-track of other songs from Hair that aren't in the play or the movie, titled "Disinhaireted". My favorite from the original is the anti-war song (don't know the name) which starts: "Ripped open by metal explosions..."
I saw a revival of the play when it came to Seattle about 10 years ago.
I'll have to get the cassette out and play it again -- it's been a while.

(20,453 posts)Out on the street I was talkin' to a man
He said there's so much of this life of mine that I don't understand
You shouldn't worry yes that ain't no crime
'Cause if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time, next time
You need direction, yeah you need a name
When you're standing in the crossroads every highway looks the same
After a while you can recognize the signs
So if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time, next time
Life is a liar, yeah life is a cheat
It'll lead you on and pull the ground from underneath your feet
No use complainin', don't you worry, don't you whine
'Cause if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time, next time
You gotta grow, you gotta learn by your mistakes
You gotta die a little everyday just to try to stay awake
When you believe there's no mountain you can climb
And if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time, next time
Next time, hmm

(English translation)
Let's go to the field.
Which field?
The same that has rabbits, oh yes.
And my dog has a rope on its foot, oh yes.
Don't kill my dog nor my rabbits,
For the dream of the rabbit reminds me of the dream of my lover, oh yes.
Let's go to the mountain.
Which mountain?
The same that has deer, oh yes.
And my dog has a rope on its foot, oh yes.
Don't kill my dog nor my rabbit, nor my deer
For the grace of the deer reminds me of the grace of my lover, oh yes.
Let's go to the garden.
Which garden?
The same that has pheasants, oh yes.
And my dog has a rope on its foot, oh yes.
Don't kill my dog nor my rabbit, nor my deer, nor my pheasants
For the amble of the pheasant reminds me of the amble of my lover, oh yes.
Let's go to the well.
Which well?
The same that has pigeons, oh yes.
And my dog has a rope on its foot, oh yes.
Don't kill my dog, nor my rabbit, nor my deer, nor my pheasants, nor my pigeons
For the flight of the pigeon reminds me of the flight of my lover, oh yes.
Let's go to the mountains.
Which mountains?
The same that has eagles, oh yes.
And my dog has a rope on its foot, oh yes.
Don't kill my dog, nor my rabbit, nor my deer, nor my pheasants, nor my pigeons, nor my eagles
For the clutch of the eagle reminds me of the clutch of my lover, oh yes.

(29,414 posts)It's one of my favorite songs by Niyaz. Azam Ali has such a beautiful voice, and that's her husband in that video, Loga Ramin Torkian.
I highly recommend all of their music. It's just a joy to simply listen and not do anything else
Here's one in English you may like, too
