Youve definitely got friends in low places where the whiskey drowns and the beers chase your blues away. But youre gonna be OK.

Can't stand country music.
I'm glad I married a Northern woman; I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life being referred to as someone's "hunk o'burnin' luuuuuuuuuuve!"
I'm a Pacific Northwesterner down to my marrow. I have apple juice in my veins.

(66,328 posts)I fired just about every small arm the Army fields. Plus the 120mm smooth-bore Rheinmetall tank gun on the M1A1 Abrams tank I crewed in the Army.
I got it all out of my system. I don't need to own a gun.
I don't have any silly Rambo fantasies about taking out a mess of suburban bad guys with a gun.
If I did own a gun, I wouldn't drink and shoot at the same time.
A little intelligence goes a long way...

I went to a rodeo once -- that was horrible. I think they and circuses that use animals should be banned.
I was also forced to listen to country music -- that scarred me for life.
I guess I probably should be a 4 because I do know what a "crick" is.

(21,925 posts)I'm not a fan of country music in general but there have been stars I've liked, like Hank Williams, John Denver, Johnny Cash, and some songs by Willie Nelson. But since my fav music is jazz, classical, and blues I don't think I'd be considered very country by the good ole boys.

It could have been 23 checked off, but I still do not consider Texas a "red" state. We're purple, thank you very little!

And if you look at this google-maps link, you'll see the Reliant stadium and Astrodome, top-center, and all the undeveloped land due south. And it's not all slated for neighborhoods, either. You'll find truck farms, grazing land, and some industrial businesses in it. On the north side of town, I once drove a major thoroughfare road, only to remark to myself at one point that it didn't look like I wasn't in Houston any more. People had chickens and other animals, lived in literal shacks, and had a fair amount of land around them for a 'lot' to live on.

(4,465 posts)Up until I was about 7, I was surrounded by people like that. After my parent's divorce I went back and forth between two worlds: My northern born Mom's house in the city, and my Southern born and bred Dad's in the outskirts of the burbs.
My Mom was forever correcting our English and forbid us from saying y'all and never let us set foot outdoors without shoes on. Meanwhile my Dad's mom commented on how 'fancy' me and my brothers spoke and made sure we knew the Lord's Prayer by heart and took us to Church any chance she got. And my Dad took us to every Air Show and NASCAR event if we weren't already going fishing or to the woods to shoot at tin cans. And while I don't like country music I know a lot of the classics by heart because that's all my Dad listened to.
Some of the kindest and most entertaining people I've ever met are the countriest of country folk. Hell, if my parents hadn't gone their separate ways I'd probably be a lot more country myself. I am not ashamed.

(3,208 posts)I live in an area that was very recently rural. It has become very suburban in the 26 years I have lived here. Still more rural than where I grew up.
A large chain store opened here recently (feed, farm supplies, etc) and I feel like a city slicker compared to the people who shop there. Usually I am the one who seems more "casual". The high school my kids went to is about 10 miles from our house, they drive past one farm with cows and there are still enough woods to keep me here. Down the road from here are some folks who have goats and chickens, but right next to me is a new subdivision with small McMansion type homes. It is an interesting area.
I love old country music and am a huge fan of Willie Nelson and how he brought the hippies and rednecks closer! I have driven through Gatlinburg but we did not stop. I live fairly close to Branson but would never dream of going there.
