Here is my neighborhood

Colonial Terraces is a neighborhood in the City of Newburgh that was built in 1917 to house workers of the Newburgh ship yards during Word War I. It was constructed during the winter from October to April at the height of the Spanish Flu epidemic. If you check the local newspapers of the time, you will notice the long lists of flu related deaths. Still, they managed to build Colonial Terraces in a 6 month time frame!

This area is different from the rest of the City in the fact that this area was created to be residential and separate from commercial parts of the City. This was something that was done to imitate the Garden Movement that was happening in England. As one resident described Colonial Terraces, “it’s got a small town vibe going. We have a nickname as the “Garden Spot” of Newburgh. There are a lot of owners who do have nice gardens and we have some green spaces in the neighborhood.”

Let me see if I can find some pictures of the hood..

found one!
heres another

Have you observed that the houses at the end of blocks, or at more desirable locations within that neighborhood are larger and more grand?

I lived in Dearborn, MI, the town that Henry Ford built, so to speak, and it is clear in certain older residential sections that houses at the end of the block are bigger, as if they were built for managers, as opposed to line workers.

Do you see that sort of thing there?

Found it.

Looks lovely.

Some of the units are rental apartments in my neighborhood.
Most are two bedroom townhouses.
Some are three bedroom townhouses with garages and gardens.
The larger units are on the corner lots.

The streets in my neighborhood are named for the company higher ups..

Well, it's lovely, either way.

About 6 weeks ago. It has greened up considerably in the last few weeks.

Have my eyes on one of these;

It is rare that the waterway behind my house is too rough for such a craft.

For some strange reason, I find amusement in locating places on satellite shots using obscure or incomplete references.

when they contain homes made of red brick or white siding. My neighborhood is at least 60 years old (originally built for officers at the nearby Navy Annex) but is almost exclusively ugly-ass cinderblock and stucco. God I am sick to death of stucco.

I like that my house is solid as hell but damn it's small and ugly.

My neighborhood is boring and new-ish and that's too much personal info for a public message board.

However, without revealing too many details about blogslut jr's new home, I'm delighted that it's located in the oldest neighborhood in town and was created by a lady who literally saved the city from financial crisis by lending our local banks money!
