YES...it is my SEMI-ANNUAL "We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll" thread.

Some of you may remember me as DUer "Amerigo Vespucci" (computer died, lost all of my IDs and passwords, did not remember which email account I used to sign up so it made it pretty damned impossible to ask Skinner for help).

ANYWAY...

...you know it's THAT time again. "Marconi plays the mamba" time. Time to worship and revere one of the worst songs ever written / performed, Grace Slick's "jump the shark" moment.

DISCUSS.

It's catchy.

There are far worse songs out there. Really.

Example: Yummy yummy yummy I've got love in my tummy.

Frank Zappa called the II-V-I chord sequence "Evil White People Music". Which this song doesn't have.

Is it my favorite Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship song? No. That would be "Stairway to Cleveland", but I enjoy the song. It's catchy.

Some other "Jefferson" songs I like:

I can name many (MANY) worse songs than "We Built This City". While I realize Rolling Stone named it the Worst Song of the 80s, and keeping in mind that I generally dislike 80s music (I'm more of a 70s and 90s guy) the 10 songs on that list don't hold a candle (in terms of "bad&quot to the 10 worst songs of the 70s.

but then again it also took four people to write "Kokomo"

WBTCOR&R is also such a waste of two great vocal talents.
We all know the power of Slick's voice and Mickey Thomas' vocal on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is sublime.

I seriously had no idea that Elvin wasn't singing lead. I feel like the world has stopped spinning on its axis.

I defy you to find me any FM station with an "80s Flashback Weekend" that doesn't play that song at least twice.
