Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsEaster gifts? POLL:
I'm trapped at a salon yesterday, almost had to hand in my MAN CARD, and these 5 women were chatting about getting their grand kids and kids Easter gifts. I have no kids, but I did not think Easter was like Christmas in the gift giving department? A couple of these dolls were spending serious cash, and I had NEVER heard of this. ... Anybody else?

(8,217 posts)I had siblings and cousins so that we never numbered less than 10.
Our grand parents would hide eggs and make a game out of it. It was in a different country, so it was walled in house.
We would run around and get a bunch of stuff.
So, now that I'm older, and I have nieces and nephews...
I sometimes buy them small things, but drop some money for the celebration.
Easter Basket is bought by their parents, I just help hide eggs and prizes.
It is a shame there are only 2 of them, but we invite others.

(82,383 posts)what blatant attempts at more consumerism by the corporate overlords!
They have also managed to push Halloween lights and house decorations. They will not rest until every holiday includes gifts and full house decoration!

(8,171 posts)gift card when they were older. Now they are grown - I give them some candy but no baskets.
My SIL has ALWAYS bought gifts for my kids for Easter and Valentine's Day. When they were young, just inexpensive little toys plus candy - now she gives them candy and cash or gas cards but I would say she doesn't spend over $25-$30 apiece.

(7,699 posts)the older grandson who is 3 doesn't really like sweets, anyway.
So I will be giving them Spring time gifts. Kids rakes and shovels to play in the garden,
and an herb to plant and water with little watering cans and watch it grow.
They go all out for decorations for every holiday in my daughter's neighborhood, which is
a very nice upper middle class neighborhood where everyone is very friendly and congenial.
The neighbors actually know each other, and get together on the weekends and some
weeknights by setting up a table and a fire in various people's driveways, and they
drink wine and chat after the children are all in bed. I've always lived places (after 1973)
where no one even knows the neighbor's names unless you get their mail by mistake.
A noticeable percentage of the neighbors are from India or Pakistan, and they decorate
just before Christmas time for their own festival of lights. It's nice because all the
children and adult neighbors get to learn about other cultures and celebrations.
I'm sure that when I go visit this weekend the street will already be decorated for Easter.
Tastefully. As opposed to the decorations I see on my way through West Virginia.
