(3,998 posts)I'm dreading that day with my dog. I don't know if I would be able to even get another dog after losing her.

(32,858 posts)that I had for 16 years. He was the best dog. Took me 5 years, but my daughter brought me 2 terrier/weenie mix puppies that were going to be taken to the pound. I love them as much as my actual children. I didn't think I'd ever want another dog either but when I saw these two puppies, I knew it was time.

(8,554 posts)I once had a woofie who looked similar to your Lance, people used to say he looked like a bear and were leery of getting too close, but he was the best, most loving friend I think I've ever had. It's been fifty years since I lost him and I just cried, thinking of him, again last night. I honestly don't think I'd be alive today if it weren't for my Bruce.
All that you can do is try to remember the bright happy moments of your life with Lance...someday those memories will begin to bring a tangible warmth, and eventually you'll be able to delight in the tremendous gift of pure love that he's given you.
My Brucie hated for me to be sad, it upset him worse than anything else.
You have all my sympathies, it is so so hard.

(4,691 posts)My childhood dog died 32 years ago, and I still miss him. That's what keeps him alive in my memories. When we stop missing our loved ones who have passed away, then they are really dead.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

They just don't live long enough.

(27,119 posts)I've been there, and I'm about to be there again.
My old girl Sarah will be 15 this September, but I'm doubtful she's going to make it.
I'm not ready and I never will be.
