The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm late to this party, but I figured out a new trick for internet shopping -
I go and look at what I'm interested in several days in a row. Lots of times, I'll get an e-mail or ad that says that item just happens to be on sale!

(34,137 posts)I've got two varieties in my pond, one white, one yellow, that are hardy here - and considering the cold weather this year, they are probably hardy farther north than the Big Bend of Florida.
But I would love to have that deep red one, if it would last!

(72,300 posts)I've tried buying lilies locally but they didn't make it.
I recommend this site (for everything). http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=767+771

(34,137 posts)My yellow and white lilies are doing OK - I have a two level "pond" and the smaller variety in the upper pond is doing better than the two in the larger one. The two plants in the upper pond got very sparse last summer but they are coming back fine this spring.
They've been in the ponds for a couple of years without repotting. The guy that brought them out and put them in recommended dividing and repotting once a year but I haven't done anything to them at all.
I guess before I order a new lily I should get a new pot or two and some plant media and repot the ones I have.
My ponds are kind of jury rigged - the upper is a fiberglass mold of a 250 gallon syrup vat. The lower pond is a blue plastic horse water trough 30" deep and nearly 8' across. The lower one is dug into the side of the terrace below our screened porch with the upper one set into the top of the terrace above so it overflows into the lower. I put feeder gold fish in both ponds and they are doing great - they had babies last year and I'm getting some neat color variations in those cheap fish.
I need to get some additional terracing done and want to make a raised bed around the lower pond to hide the plastic sides. Then I'd like to put in a solar powered pump to take water from the lower pond up into the upper one. Last year we put a bird bath and mister above the upper pond and the little water it added kept both ponds full all summer.

(6,261 posts)I usually only have to look at an item once, and within a week or so I get offers for that same item. I don't know if they measure how much time I spend looking at it or if that affects this.

(34,137 posts)Some sites seem to panic, thinking they've lost you as a customer. Since I like to think about my purchases, I do tend to select what I want, add them to my cart or to a wish list, then wait a while before making the purchase. Some things have been on my lists for months - but their prices have dropped a lot.
