I found the most interesting thing while shopping at Nordstrom

Last edited Sun Apr 20, 2014, 06:03 PM - Edit history (1)

I don't really shop there that often, a bit too pricey. But when I go to my local mall I like parking in front of Nordstrom. Usually less crowded parking lot and when I'm ready to leave the have the nicest restrooms I have ever seen in any department store. Plus I like the coffee shop they have there.

So I stopped by the clothing department taking a peak at clothing and I saw a pair of green pants in a style and color I liked but for $70. That was a bit more than I normally would spend (although to be fair that was cheap for Nordstrom prices). But I looked at the tag and there it was - Made in the USA. I don't think I've seen that tag in any clothes anywhere for ages.

So I thought I'd try them on - I could tell they were well made, I loved the dark green color and I knew they would be pants I'd wear once a week to work. So in the end I bought them.

Funny thing is this - I rarely buy clothes that aren't on sale and I look for those end of season clearance racks! But when I saw the Made in the USA label, I just felt like I wanted to support a company that was making their clothes here in the USA. And Although many of us might not pay $70 for a pair of pants I think we would spend a few more dollars if you knew the clothes were also made in the USA.

BTW the label was XCVI. I read some articles i googled and not only do they try to have most of their clothes made in the USA but they seem to be responsible in the way they do it.

I hope more clothing designers considering going the Made in the USA label.

Especially for pants. They're not cheap, but not cheaply-made either. It's where I buy clothes for "client facing" events. (Day-to-day stuff is more Macy's or Penney's).

Glad to hear there are American-made options there.

And they're made in China. I've had to restitch nearly every seam, early in the life of the pants. Don't get me wrong. I love them enough that I bought more of their products, from Zappos since I live out of the country and must have things mailed.

Now, I just checked the more recent purchase and the label has been changed. They're identical to the first pair of pants, but the label is Wearables, and they're definitely make in China. Zappos has lots of their product and it all looks similar to the two items I have. Mine say made in China, but Zappos now has them listed as made in America.

So, good for them! Maybe it's worth reconsidering the brands. Maybe the quality has improved.

But at least they are making some. As for quality I won't officially know for a few months until I wear them a bit

There were two critical exceptions, however: The U.S. agreed to exempt the islands from the minimum wage requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act (allowing the islands to set their own lower minimum wage, currently $3.05, compared to $5.15 in the U.S.) and from most provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This has allowed garment manufacturers to import thousands of foreign contract guest workers who, ironically, stitch onto the garments they make the labels “Made in Saipan (USA),” Made in Northern Marianas (USA)” or simply “Made in USA.”

A matching set of swaddles, a stroller blanket and a bib in a very unique print. I was amazed at the quality and everyone had to pass it around and feel the softness of the fabrics. Many people checked out the label and wrote it down. It was definitely the talk of the shower and she later told me it was her favorite gift by far.

I was so happy to find Made in the USA baby things which I thought was impossible. Looked everywhere and nothing but Chinese or India or Vietnam and very low quality. These came nicely packaged in tissue too. The kind of things that you can pass down from baby to baby, totally unheard of these days when everything is throwaway. It is so distressing to think of slave or even child labor making things for another child or a baby. I had to look for a while, but it was worth it.

I will definitely be buying from them for all my gifts and recommending them. It's called The Snug Bug http://thesnugbug.com/ Support small USA business!

I need food and money to make ends meet.70 dollar pants,I cannot afford.Wish made in america meant made for lower class people too. That disabled people didnt get shafted and financially abused by the rich .I hate having to buy from disgusting places like walmart where they try to hide their evil ways in a broken or convoluted supply chains. I hate going to goodwill because they pay the disabled people working there 75¢ an hour.
