Thanks to a scholarship and a nice discount for taking classes over the summer, my tuition is about $1400 for three classes. Normally, it would have been closer to $2500. That's for a resident at a state college. I'm taking:
Business Z440 Human Resources Management
Business F301 Introduction to Finance
Business P301 Operations Management
I could graduate in December of this year with a BS in business administration, but I'm taking an optional concentration of study that will qualify me to be a managerial accountant upon graduation. I'll receive my degree in August of 2015.
I'll be 42 fucking years old when I graduate, but i suppose that's better than not doing it at all. I returned to school about 20 years after dropping out. When I have that diploma in my hand, it will be the proudest day of my life aside from the day that I stood in front of 200 people and got married.

(10,418 posts)And I suggested Chicago, but we decided to go elsewhere. However, my wife loves big cities and we may head up that way at some point. We are only about 5 hours away by car. I'll get in touch when we decide to go there. I make itr a personal policy not to turn down a free meal. It's just fundamental to life. You can't beat it.

(54,256 posts)I left college a semester or so shy of graduation.
Short story is that I had to become the breadwinner for my family (me and mom).
I'd love to finish (at 72) but even instate tuition is way too high and Alabama has no seniors program.
Congratulations to you.

(10,418 posts)Is your original coursework from Alabama? I was very surprised when I went back to school that my college credit from 20 years ago was valid. Yours might be as well.

(149,615 posts)You have your eyes on the prize, and now it is closer than ever!
I'm so proud of you. You have really followed your dreams and they are going to happen.
Oh, and btw, 42 is not old! I think I was older than that when I finally got my RN. Your age really doesn't matter.

(10,418 posts)I've heard a lot about age discrimination and I am well aware that I'll be competing with a lot of people half my age when I graduate. I'm also aware that now that I'm over 40, I'm legally protected against age discrimination. It's sort of comforting, but at the same time I know it's hard to prove if you've been a victim.

(8,646 posts)I'm nearly done as well (I am in my last semester of a bachelor of commerce, major in accounting). I've taken OM and a couple finance courses (I made it up to advanced finance if you need any help but it sounds like you are doing well)...I really enjoyed them both. I'm currently taking advanced business statistics and an elective (social psychology). I'll be 39 when I graduate. I also dropped out the first time around (I have a year of a science degree). It's different the second time around, for sure!
