Lydia McCauley sings an old Canadian folksong "The Moon of Wintertime" also known as the "Huron Carol." Written in 1643 by Jean de Brébeuf a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Huron. The melody is taken from a traditional French folksong. Music courtesy of Magnatune.
Art by Fuschia Nightfire and Juanita Deharo

Filmed at Welsh Rainbow, Not everything is Plain B&W, and Pirats Art Network in Second Life.

Interesting example of the Catholics church's synchronization of traditional beliefs with the beliefs of the indigenous people they wish to convert. Really a very beautiful melody with a distinctive medieval sound.
The original lyrics are in the native language of the Huron/Wendat people. The song's melody is based on a traditional Sixteenth century, French folk song, "Une Jeune Pucelle" ("A Young Maid" . The Hurons preserved the hymn through oral tradition.
I wish I could find a translation for the original French folksong "Une Jeune Pucelle" ("A Young Maid" . Any musicologists out there?
