Animals in WWI

Over 8 million horses killed along with untold number of donkeys,mules,carrier pigeons,dogs, and others carried into battle as mascots. Sad, heart-breaking pictures of animals among the madness:

I still have a tiny little can they used to attach messages to the legs of pigeons.

They thought she was a male pigeon until after her death when they had her preserved by a taxidermist. They should add two "e's" to her name for "Chere Amie". Amazing that she survived after being shot.
