Remember the Savannah?

From 50 years past. High hopes for nuclear powered commercial ships. But, didn't come to be. Nevertheless, a cool ship. Strange, too many drawbacks for the private sector to make such ships feasible, but the military embraced nuclear powered ships and subs and even tinkered around with atomic planes. Only drawback on that, I understand, is that it spewed out radioactive exhaust as it flew.

they don't have to worry about profit but they do have to worry about fueling stations.

Modern commercial ships have become more fuel efficient and nuclear simply costs too much.

(BTW, I worked with a guy who was in the initial nuclear navy program, and he had some interesting tales to tell.)

It used to be part of the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mt. Pleasant, SC. It was pretty interesting.
