Although the final scene of Bridge over the River Kwai is one of the most powerful endings in film history, I slightly give the nod to the cynicism of Stalag 17. Plus you know who (for those who have not seen it) makes a great nazi spy.

because it's a work of art!

Also, TCM showed "The Password Is Courage" a few months ago, and it's basically the same story as "The Great Escape" though less serious. Dirk Bogarde was great

It's my favorite book. Incredible read; lyrical, haunting, heartbreaking.

Tom Conti's Lawrence refers to the title in his final conversation with Sergeant Hara: "It is as if Celliers, by his death, sowed a seed in Captain Yonoi, that we might all benefit from its growth" - (from memory; it may not be strictly word-for-word).

No, it's actually Stalag 17.
Billy Wilder and William Holden are hard to be beat.

...about some escaped German Nazis prisoners who were surreptitiously working their way across Canada. They came across a German Hutteright colony and were welcomed. The difference between the socialist colony and the Nazi officers soon became evident.

I don't know the name of this film unfortunately.

I didn't realize it was made as "a propaganda film". As such, one would think it would be more accessible as a 'freebie'. Haven't found one yet.

Female POW's held by the Japanese on Sumatra. It's good, but not as good as Bridge on the River Kwai.

My guilty pleasure is Victory, in which a bunch of POWs play soccer against the Germans. Stallone played the goalkeeper.
