The DU Lounge

We've all got them, so 'fess up DU.
Movies and shows you find oddly compelling, music your friends would roll their eyes at, food your doctor would shake their head at, anything.
I've got both the "hide your kids, hide your wife" and Friday songs in my playlist, and I actually like them.

(5,364 posts)I live alone and can do pretty much whatever I want. My best friends as well as this woman I'm attempting to woo seem to be philistines of the highest order when it comes to music or movies, and so pretty much my entire collection of CDs and DVDs are guilty pleasures to that end.
I have a very broad palette, but a couple of foods I'll only eat at home by my lonesome, to spare anyone else disgust are my comfort foods:
Sardine sandwich on wheat with a slice of raw onion.
Canned smoked oysters.
My own home made white clam sauce ( with linguine ) from fresh clams, which is very garlicky with lots of parsley and minced onion, and I add in some squid, scallops and shrimp. It's delicious, but others are repulsed by it because of its "fishy" smell.

(28,941 posts)If you like TVB and Duckman, check out Rake. Same quirky off the wall humor in live action.

(5,364 posts)Sort of like being caught riding a moped. I Listen to KISS. It wasn't their antics, or theatrics, and Simmons' brashness irks the hell out of me, but I really really like their sound and their music from the '73-'75 period, and some later stuff. Just good basic, loud and raw, power chord hard rock. I caught a lot of hell for it, but I didn't give a shit and still don't.

(33,688 posts)most Carpenters recordings - dat voice! - though my usual tastes run to classic prog rock, classical and bop/post bop jazz as well as modern trance. J- and K-pop girl groups.
Hot Tamales cinnamon candies, McDonald's fries, good ol' Grain Belt Premium beer.
The Adam West Batman show and the cheesy monster/sci-fi Svengoolie's movies. The Powerpuff Girls and Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy cartoons. Cartoons in general, to be honest.
Read the second part of my sigline for a clue to my biggest (not-so) guilty pleasure.

(12,132 posts)Don't feel a bit guilty about them.
Cyndi Lauper and Carcass are both in my playlist. Pokey LaFarge and Pestilence. Tchaikovsky and the Monkees.
I unashamedly enjoy well choreographed dance numbers in movies - Mama Mia being a favorite.
I'll go to Le Coq Au Vin for coq au vin and go home and eat Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries for dessert.
I watch anime with my daughter and when she goes to bed, I stay up and watch more.
I still laugh at Beavis and Butthead. (And can't hardly wait til the new Venture Brothers season).
I'll wear a Napalm Death or Dying Fetus concert shirt when I take my wife antiquing. I'm her extra pair of eyes - my job is to find things with peacocks or peacocky colors and fairy lights.
I bought my first pair of flip flops this weekend. I'm mad I didn't do it 30 years ago when I moved to Florida.
"Guilty" is for suckers. Enjoy the shit you enjoy, folks.
