UPDATE I may have spotted Belladonna in my kitnapper's window yesterday

Last edited Thu Aug 21, 2014, 11:41 AM - Edit history (1)

I was walking the dogs. I saw a cat looking out the window. I tried to get a good look, but it left the window just as I was close enough. However, I could see that it is has a large patch on it's right side. Through the screen and from the distance, I could only see lighter grey/darker grey. But I don't remember her having a patchy or calico cat.

She used to have 2 cats. This spring one of them started sitting in the window crying really loudly every day. Like I kept wandering around looking for a cat in my pasture.

Then it stopped when the weather got super hot (I think they had a/c with windows closed). Now it's cool and the windows are open again, but the cat hasn't resumed crying in the window. And it hadn't cried at all last year. I'm wondering now if they lost one of their 2 cats, and if Bella went out wandering in the nicer weather, they invited her in and kitnapped her again.

I'm going to try to get a closer look after work tonight. In the dark, if they have lights on, I may be able to see if she's there.

My dog I hate my neighbors!

She spent 3 months happily living in my barn. Was kitnapped (it turned out by a neighbor that lived "kitty-corner" ) that March. They kept her for 5 months, then moved away and dumped her. I saw her on their front stoop a week later. Met with the new people who said she walked in while they were moving in -- like she owned the place. So they were feeding her. They told me they'd keep an eye out and would catch her and bring her over, since she hung around there all the time now. They never did.

Last March, almost to the day after she vanished, I came home from work and saw her huddled in the driveway across the street directly across from my drive. Brought her home, got her vetted, all shots and dewormed. Saw the neighbors, who told me that she'd spent the winter under their trailer. They said they "felt sorry for her." They had never bothered to tell me, even though they *knew* I was looking for her.

She was a bag of bones and nervous wreck, but fattened up and calmed down quickly. Has been living happily out of my barn ever since. Follows my horse and I up to the riding pasture, and runs and plays while we're there. Follows us back to the barn when we're done. Occasionally is late to a meal, but until a week ago, never missed a meal. She's been missing now for over a week -- ever since the heat/humidity let go and the nights started getting cool. The baby animals are leaving the nest this time of year, so she may have reverted to feral. Or she may have wandered over to the kitty-corner neighbors and been kitnapped again.

Last time I walked around calling for her and posted signs every where. This time I'm not bothering. Everybody knows where she belongs. When push comes to shove, she knows where her home base is.

She was originally feral and may have gone off hunting and decided

If you're okay with her living in the neighbor's house, why don't you just let them know that. But tell them you still care for her and if they don't want to keep her in during the winter to let you know. That way you can have some peace of mind.

I was still working through my feelings about the situation when I replied, but what you've written makes the most sense.

That way if they haven't taken her and she's just gone feral again while the hunting is good, maybe they'll let me know if she shows up at the place thinking that under their trailer is her "winter digs."

My barn may not be heated, but it's much warmer shelter than bare ground under the trailer, plus Dahli generates a lot of heat.

but couldn't see any identifying features. Hubby was home and active, so I didn't want to disturb them at 10:30pm.

If they've taken her to be an indoor cat, I can live with that. She will be happy. I just don't want her going through what she did last winter. Coldest winter since before she was born, and she was trapped under their trailer.

they are down to 1 cat, and she has patches. She either was playing with a toy or one of their kids.

I noticed the skirt around their trailer is cracked open about 4" in one spot, so was able to look under their trailer -- no sign of her there either.

I'm trusting she's just gone feral again while the hunting is good. If she needs shelter and food in the future, hopefully she'll know to come here, or hopefully this time they'll let me know she's over there.
