and if that doesn't happen and I should expire, she keeps it cold enough in our house that I will be preserved a la Lenin into perpetuity.

(39,343 posts)Our AC went out 4 years ago and we replaced it with a hulk of a system. We could hang meat in here if the refridgerator or freezer died.

(24,146 posts)i want the windows cracked and he's setting the thermostat to 80. i keep that mother at 62-68 all winter long, even when it's below zero. he can wear his robe and slippers all winter like i do.
62-68 is cold. We keep our house between 70 in winter and 72/73 in summer.

(24,146 posts)i'm used to the cold but he's from a warmer climate and doesn't deal with it so well. i'll be lucky to make it another three weeks before he starts bugging me to take the fan out of the window at night.

(1,136 posts)It's August, in VA. I'm in sweat pants, socks, shirt, and hoodie. I, too, go outside to thaw out. I have a sheet, quilt, and comforter on the bed.
What's funny is in the winter we have the opposite fight. I like it cooler, he wants the heat cranked up. I put the thermometer on 68 and keep a fire going. He cranks it up to 74 or so and STILL builds a fire. Next thing you know it's in the 80's in the house and I'm cracking windows.

(24,088 posts)...parsimonious friend of my husband told us about one of his wonderful money saving ideas. He was keeping his thermostat set at 55 in the winter, and they were wearing sweaters all the time. My husband thought that sounded like a great idea. "Not if you want to continue living with me," I told him.
