(12,132 posts)I love the dense, flat brownies my dad used to make with powdered sugar on top and he'd always save me a corner. But most of the commercially produced brownies I've had fell far short.
But for cupcakes, I love more varieties but none as much as Dad's brownies. However, dad is gone and so are his brownies (along with his sour-milk chocolate cake with caramel icing) so I can't have that so I'd have to take a good hard look at the cupcakes. I like the frosting my grandma used to make with not much more than powdered sugar and butter and cocoa powder (not sure what else which is why I don't make it).
But any cupcake as long as it has real butter frosting and not gross whipped cream frosting. Yellow cake with chocolate icing is all I need.
And a big glass of cold whole milk.

(53,339 posts)I cringe when I see those old movies in which a family sits down to dinner with a pitcher of milk on the table. Nothing like a glass of warm milk that's been sitting out before and during your dinner.

(12,132 posts)doing some kind of off-grid farming thing (solar power, free range chickens and cows and stuff). There is a name for it but I can't remember the name...anyway - he SWEARS by fresh milk straight from the cow. Only thing he'll drink now.
I kind of see what he's getting at with the no pesticides and no antibiotics and all that..but damn - No matter how healthy, warm milk just doesn't do it for me.

(12,132 posts)She ain't happy til there's a thin layer of ice on top.
I don't need it THAT cold - my fridge is already pretty close to freezing so it's plenty cold for me.

(3,275 posts)I'm more of a cookie girl myself but if those are the two options then I'll take a brownie. I don't really like frosting very much. Also, I agree with the big glass of milk.

(46,709 posts)The recipe said to follow the recommended cooking times and not to rely on the toothpick test. I followed the instructions and ended up with muddy brownies.

(53,339 posts)At least if they're undercooked you can put them back in (if you're not foodfighting with them). I set my timer for the lowest end of the recommended range and check them. No toothpick, though--i go by looks. I can tell when they're done and still moist. What I don't want is overcooked brownies.

(23,987 posts)...ever so lightly sprinkled with sea salt, are rather fine. I prefer brownies from the middle of the pan rather than the edges, and if slightly under done, so much the better.
