John Denver died on 10/12/97

The world truly lost an amazing soul on this day 17 years ago. He was a humanitarian, environmentalist, singer/songwriter, actor, and the list goes on.

Here is a song written by Joe Henry and John Denver, "The Wings That Fly Us Home."

Like everyone else, he had his demons to overcome. It was too bad that he didn't get the chance to win. Here's my favorite song:

Used very effectively in that season ender of Magnum PI when Magnum was on the brink of death. They should have ended it there and never had another season.

He was a good man.

I have a fondness for his music as I grew up hearing to it and remember listening to his Christmas album around the holidays.

I saw him many times in concert and had the opportunity to meet him after a concert in '88. I will never forget how his beautiful brown eyes looked at me as he shook my hand. For that brief moment, he truly listened to me, even though I was so nervous, babbling on.

His songs are always in my heart.

I grew up listening to his music and was sad when his time to go was so soon.

My son left for Africa for 27 months in July. That morning he posted "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Now I get really teary eyed when it comes on. I remind myself that we DO know when he will be back again!

He was a true voice of the people--or at least my kind of people.

Denver's softer tone...on the video you can see Placido a bit further back from the mic and Denver closer to his.

They seem to have bonded on this song so it makes it all the nicer...
