Or at least 1/2 of the original, Roger and Pete. Queen did the same thing with 1/2 the originals, Roger Taylor & Brian May.
As we fans know, it's been a running joke since '78 when Moon died. Farewell tour, another farewell tour, another one...it just goes on.
I don't care as long as they can crawl on stage and drag a guitar behind them!!
Now it's the Fiftieth Anniversary Tour!!
When I was younger I liked Pete better as being the poet, but I think Roger gets deeper and has more character the older he gets.
GEEZER ROCK LIVES!!

(21,046 posts)If I told you what it takes to reach the highest high
You'd laugh and say, "Nothing's that simple"
But you've been told many times before
Messiahs pointed to the door
No one had the guts to leave the temple
I'm free, I'm free
And freedom tastes of reality

Did you hear the stuff that Krishna said?
Or know for you that Jesus' blood was shed?
Is it in your heart or in your head?
Or does the truth lay in the centre spread?
--"Jools and Jim", Pete Townshend(angry at critics), Empty Glass album, 1980. It also includes the line "They don't give a shit Keith Moon is dead".

(14,400 posts)was their farewell tour in Vancouver back in 1989.
I think it's become a competition between them and Motley Crue to see who can have the most farewell tours.

(5,604 posts)I saw them in Toronto that year too. I thought they were over the hill back then (same as the Stones, also in '89).

(21,046 posts)I was pissed that The Police broke up in '83 right after I saw them on the Synchronicity Tour. They had gotten really, really good and were on top of the world. Some of their stuff was quite complex rhythmically. Their last two albums, Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity, were great. Andy Summers has now gone into jazz and he started on classical, which is typical for excellent musicians who get bored with classical after a while.
After that I gave up on rock and roll except for a bit of late '80s Robert Palmer, who was your basic Sharp Dressed Man white boy British soul singer, and possibly a few other things I have forgotten about.
i started out taking classical piano lessons at age five, and started violin lessons at age ten. I cut my teeth on classical and Sixties & Seventies rock. I had one ear in the classical station and the other ear in the Top 40 station, first on AM, then on FM Album Oriented Rock (AOR). I was in elementary school when the Beatles blew our minds on the Ed Sullivan show, and loved them just as much as all the older girls.
I did see one of my Sixties-era loves, Steve Winwood, a few weeks ago.
Last week I saw Chick Corea. That was awesome. He jammed on Pastime Paradise, by Stevie Wonder, from "Songs in the Key of Life" from 1976, which was later used by Coolio as Gangster Paradise, and that was then parodied by Weird Al as Amish Paradise. Now that was a strange musical journey that that song took.

(28,552 posts).... and there are scads of middle-aged people willing to pay to see them, I guess it's ok. I guess there might even be a smattering of youngsters that know rock and roll when they hear it, who knows.
I loved the Who but the idea of someone my age (their) going to a rock concert I find laughable. Oh, I can still party, but now I prefer to do so in more intimate settings

(4,012 posts)I'm not interested in seeing 1/2 of the Who. I saw them in their "farewell" tour in the 80's & they were okay, but w/o Moon something was missing. Now that Entwistle is gone, they should hang it up.
Not interested in 1/2 of Pink Floyd or 1/2 of Slayer either.

(37,428 posts)...where they performed brilliantly. Zak Starkey was a credible Moon impressionist, Daltrey could still scream, and Entwistle was still Entwistle.
There was a televised tribute show several years back, though, that wonderfully showcased their music through many other acts. The Who themselves, however, sounded terrible. I would never require them to sound the same fifty years on, but what they'd become wasn't appealing.
Okay, Pete solo probably still sounds good. Perhaps there's material in which they have something to offer.

(21,046 posts)if you are two original members of the band, and you own the rights to the name of the band and its music, then you are not a tribute band.
One-half of Queen plus Adam Lambert went on tour last summer and called themselves Queen because two of them were original members and they had the rights to the name and the music. And the third guy, John Deacon, bass player, who is still alive but retired, and also owns a share of the rights to the name and the music, approved of the other two using the name and no doubt got a cut of the profits. And probably Freddie's girlfriend, who owns the rights from his estate.
Yeah, people were staying away from that tour in droves. So much so that they did over 25 dates in North America, then went to Korea and Japan, and then added Australia and New Zealand. And now they're planning on taking that same tour to Europe and South America.
