big increase in surgery to repair stretched earlobes . warning picture

After seven unsuccessful job interviews, 24-year-old Luke Clark began to think something other than his CV was playing havoc with his job prospects.

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/oct/19/cosmetic-surgeons-repair-stretched-earlobes

Potential employers didn’t seem to like the 4cm “flesh tunnel” holes he had in each ear as much as he did.

Clark had begun stretching his lobes at university several years earlier, and the problem was that when he took the plugs out his stretched earlobes looked terrible.

Now one of the fastest-growing cosmetic procedures in the UK is repairing stretched earlobes.

The piercings are created either by gradually placing a cone-shaped taper into the ear and pushing it through a little more each day, or by having larger-sized tunnels placed into a pierced ear every few weeks to slowly widen the hole. Once the holes stretch past 1.5cm in diameter, the earlobe will never spring back to its original shape.

Asked a co-worker that had this and he acknowledged his lobes were boned. Yeah, not sure I get it either but decent fellow overall.

But the smart thing to do would be to get a tattoo or a piercing on a body part not normally revealed in the workplace. Or just, express your uniqueness through the work you are trying to get hired to do.

Our office uses a courier service and one of the employees of the courier service has this done to his ears. Nice guy. His choice.

My nausea. Seriously - when I see it, I nearly get sick.

The terrible haircuts and clothes of the 1970-80s could be remedied without surgical procedures and one could deny one had ever known about, much less taken part, in such crimes against taste.

Well, duh! The ear lobes look bad enough with the gages IN. Totally hideous with them OUT.

I was hoping for an "after" picture post surgery.

both tatted and looking proud with their cute child. I smiled at them and then noticed the father had the gauges in his ears. I could envision his kid in about 9-13 months, sticking his fingers in those holes and giving them a good YANK. OUCH!!
