Fuck kidney stones!

With a jackhammer!

I went to the doc today for lab results, stopped and picked up a couple of groceries and about an hour after getting home my right side felt like one of those wrecking balls hit me at full speed and kept at it for good measure.

Ouch. That shit hurts.

Oh, and to the nurse that wanted the urine sample.....I know you are doing your job, but the last thing I wanted to do was pee right then.

Everything went well and I feel fine but twice before I was rolling on the floor screaming for Morphine and the last time. I was in bed for a month after surgery. Didn't think that kind of pain was possible while remaining conscious. Hope you get a good Doctor. This too shall pass (pun intended) but, believe me, I feel your pain.

A couple of weeks ago he was in the fetal position moaning and groaning and I confess I really thought he probably had gas after the English "fry up" he ate for lunch. It was a kidney stone. He was very pleased to tell us that the ER doctor said the pain is considered worse than childbirth...(My daughter delivered a baby two weeks earlier!!)

And, having done both myself, I actually had to agree with him.

I looked up some info online and had him drink plain water with a spoonful of apple cider vinegar, a couple of times a day. It helped him.

but it was on the wrong side. I was driving home from work.

There's a site called kidneystones101 that says stones won't kill you, but you probably wish they would.

History of kidney stones, passed one that took a MONTH to finally exit -- it was shaped like a "Y" and felt like it had gone the entire way ass-backwards. :O I describe the pain as peeing coral.

Drink as much water as you can take and if they offer pain pills, take'm.

Godspeed.

I had gone to the ER. I didn't know anything about Kidney Stones. They knocked me out and put in a stent and scheduled me for Lithotripsy.

The Lithotripsy was a non-event other than sitting partially in a basin of water. Afterwards, I would start to feel that telltale sign in my left side and have to get my stainer for the catch of the day. Expletives would fly out in abundance and soon that little bastard would pop out.

As bad as the stones were, the removal of the stent was far worse. This time, it wasn't done under an anesthetic. They did apply a little numbing jell which I guess is pretty close to better than nothing. It was also trainee day so I got that added benefit.

Since I was numb, I just imagined them grabbing my lil fella and trying to force the camera laden plumber's snake into the opening like a fisherman trying to retrieve the hook from deep inside a fish's mouth.

It seemed to go pretty well until... the WORST pain in my life. As I screamed out in agony I'm told that was the sphincter muscle (there's more than one, who knew?) The Doc might have said something to the effect of, "you might feel a little pressure" but I don't recall for sure. After that, it was easier. All the time they are cleansing out my urethra with something like saline I forget what it was. As they finished their little retrieval they told me that I would have to pee immediately afterward. They weren't kidding!

Got out of the chair and headed to the bathroom. I urinated in Technicolor. Finished up with the Doctor and got about half way down the hall and found another bathroom. Made it to the elevator and got off on the first floor and Yep, headed for another bathroom. Will this ever end? I finally make it to the car and what's this? back into the hospital to go again. Luckily, I live about 3 minutes from the Hospital so I was able to make it home in time for another go.

My second Lithotripsy wasn't so difficult. Those stones didn't have 46 years to harden into brown diamonds. I had one little stone show up and the rest of the fragments were too small to even be worth catching.

My Urologist had me drinking lots of lemonade to try to ward off any future stones. I really got sick of lemonade after a few years. I think I'm due for new stones within the next two years.

Found the coca cola diet and asparagus treatment. It worked.

Read from NASA that if you jump every once in a while each day, the force can be most beneficial.

Passed one in the men's room while in college. Took everything I had to remain silent.

Most excruciating pain I've ever felt (and coming from a guy who suffers from cluster headaches, that's saying a LOT).

...diet and peeing into a strainer. It doesn't hurt so bad as did it those first couple of hours (which was somewhere between "is there a nice corner I can find to die in" and "alien chest burster is coming out all wrong&quot .
