I saw him in 1992 on an "Unsolved Mysteries" episode, and he was terrible. I absolutely refuse to see any of his movies; but once a friend of mine wanted to see "The Newton Boys", so I reluctantly went with him. I almost walked out of the damn thing. It was the worst piece of crap I'd ever seen, and I've seen some crap. I did force myself to watch "Contact" because I had read the book, but he wasn't in that one all the time.

Jim Carrey did a perfect job of parodying McConaughey. Hilarious!

not to mention Jared Leto turning in a transcendent performance. I did not recognize him!

Such great roles for both of them. Every once in a while a film like this comes along. I wish they came along more often. I wonder if "Interstellar" will be any good.

And I wouldn't mind watching it because I like Woody Harrelson. I'll have to give it a try. I used to detest
Leonardo Dicaprio until I saw him in "Catch Me If You Can" and "Shutter Island", and I am now a Leo fan. Maybe I can overcome my distaste for McConaughey. If he's any good, my 22 year boycott might be over.

True Detective is great. Great writing, acting, cinematography. Didn't know it was on Netflix now, I have it on iTunes. Matt's character, Rust Cohle, is fascinating, imo

And I have to say that McConaughey does give an impressive performance. But as I watched, I kept wondering if it's more the character himself that I find appealing instead of McConaughey's acting. Some of the things that the character says are things that I've said in my life on the subject of religion and society in general. There are many other actors who could have given such a dark performance. Kudos to him, though. Now off to watch the remaining episodes.

I think Matts' physicality is a big part of Rust, but I'm sure others could have played him well too. Still, an intriguing character, and one of my favorites on TV, along with Cranston's Walter White/Heisenberg
