I love English cottage gardens so for me: winding stone paths, a small foot bridge over a tiny stream and pond, lily pads, koi, irises, low stone walls overgrown with ivy, an herb garden, a classic field stone wishing well, 2 topiaries and a Hobbit (sod) house or a small hut with a thatched roof, an arbor, loaded grape vines, blueberries, sunflowers, a meditation bench facing the sunset, a hot tub and an outdoor kitchen.

(60,034 posts)No deer or critters around that mandate fencing. Plenty of space to grow all of the heirloom and other breeding project tomatoes, peppers and eggplant on my wishlist to grow - we are talking acres. And while we are at it, knees that don't have torn ACLs so that I can spend hours out there and not ache afterwards!

there is a quiet sound of crickets. the moon is a crescent.
sitting in the gazebo is my mom. she has a glass of iced tea she is drinking. there is a glass waiting for me. she smiles as i approach and says my name. i am overjoyed to be with her again.
it is a perfect summer evening.
i sit down beside her and wrap my arms around her. she hugs me back.
today is the fifth anniversary of her passing.

productive with fruits and vegs, but plenty of green and flowers too, a water feature - maybe some gold fish and frogs, nice clean seating in both sun and shade

(22,845 posts)A sacred grove surrounded by a spiral walk.
A nice potting shed.
Lots of healthy dogwood trees.
Native Maryland plants.
A small raised bed vegetable garden.
Irises.
Blueberries.
Actually, with the exception of the spiral walk, potting shed and dogwoods, that is my garden.

(38,022 posts)I am a notorious plant-killer. Sadly, I'm an apartment dweller with no balcony/patio and hanging/affixing plants by my one window is not possible. I'm stuck with gathering a few hearty plants under a lamp with a CFL bulb. It's better than nothing and so far, the greenies are still alive.
