That looks more blue-gray. I think the advice against black shoes was with a navy-blue suit. Aristus Nov 2014 #11
I would think that black shoes are almost always acceptable. GoCubsGo Nov 2014 #12

Black shoes are usually fine, but this "blue suit...?" Is that really necessary?

A cool thing about living in India is that I can get bespoke suits for less than a pret suit goes for in the US.

This one is really good, and cost about $70.

In a perfect world, I suppose a medium-to-dark grey shoe would be nice. In an awesome world, red shoes - to make the angels jealous.

To avoid the look of a uniform.

I occasionally wear black shoes with a blue suit, and it looks pretty good. No one has ever said a word about it. (Not the least of which reasons is because in any random group in any given situation, I'm likely to be the best-dressed person in the room. What can I say? I like clothes.)

The fashion rules change less often for men than they do for women. But they do change every once in a while. Twenty years ago, if you were purchasing a double-breasted suit, the rule was to cuff the trousers, no exceptions. Nowadays, if one purchases a double-breasted suit, (and they're currently out-of-fashion anyway) the rule is no cuffs on the trousers.

As much as I love clothes, I have only one hard-and-fast rule: Never wear a belt AND suspenders at the same time!!!

The one exception being a brown suit--unless it has black woven into it somehow (stripes, houndstooth, etc.)
