No need to be ashamed. It was popular because it was good.

I never saw Lion King, but Les Mis was great. I also liked the movie.Add to Journal Self-delete Edit p

With Sir (at that time) Lawrence Olivier.

The moment he walked on stage, before he had even spoken, he had captured the audience. And I don't even like the play. I saw it only because I couldn't get tickets to Othello.

When I was in 5th grade, I moved from Texas back to Mississippi, where I was born.

My friends made a tape for me as a goodbye present where they sang the entire soundtrack of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" but changed the words to be about me. I still have that tape, and even in the days of facebook it's still the last I've heard from several of them.

I've seen quite a few productions of Guys and Dolls, from San Francisco's polished Civic Light Opera production to high school productions, and even outdoor production at the Mountain Play on Mount Tamalpais, but those 'podunk' theaters productions offer the biggest bang for the buck, bar none.

If I didn't have a tin ear, I'd love to have played Nathan Detroit.

the King & I with Yul Brynner at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio (touring company, before he got diagnosed with lung cancer). My mom got tickets at a travel agency & thought we had gotten nosebleed seats, so she brought her opera glasses. Turns out we were 3 row, center, orchestra.

1. The 39 Steps (seen in London) performed with 4 actors, 2 of whom played the majority of the characters and moved the scenery around. The production was hilarious
2. Bombay Dreams by A R Rahman - An amazing show, very different from your traditional west end production. Definitely the #1 in my book in terms how how they staged the production. I loved loved loved it.
3. Wicked with Idena Menzel when when it went on stage in London with Idina Menzel beginning the shows run as Elphaba. I was so excited to see her perform the role. I actually saw the London production with Idina Menzel four times.
4. Les Mis with John Owen Jones as Jean Valjean - - I could watch his performance over and over.
5. Woman In White by Andrew Lloyd Webber - A very different production for Webber. It had a very real plot based off of a book by Wilkie Collins, a contemporary of Charles Dickens. All during the first part of the show the woman in white would appear briefly on stage. By the intermission I was like - who the heck is the woman in white and what is her story? I totally got sucked into the story.
6. I should add Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - I have never read the book or watched the movie. I thought the staging of the production was really cute.

It is hard to play favorites there are so many that I have loved. You know that you have been to way too many London west end productions when you start to recognize actors from one show to another.
