She lied. My arm still hurts.

(72,300 posts)So I was feeling brave.
'Cause the nurse I like said I should get "get the shot on my next visit".
I couldn't sleep on that side. Oh, and I haven't stopped sneezing since last night.

(66,328 posts)I tell them to expect a little lingering pain and/or localized irritation at the site of injection. That way, if they don't experience any of these things, they think it's a superior immunization technique.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)My answer ... The needle wasn't the problem. It was uncomfortable feeling the injection fluid going in. The site is still tender this morning.

But Mr ITW's pickup truck is being repaired this week so I'm hanging with DU and my TV while he is tooling around in my car.
I hate to complain but my arm hurts.

(14,400 posts)It happens to me every now and then. Most of the time there's no problem but sometimes my arm just gets sore.

(17,193 posts)As a hermit, I normally don't get flu shots and such, since I don't interact with people. But when I was in the hospital I got a flu and pneumonia shot, since I figured it was best to take precautions in a free-range virus farm. The nurse told me they would hurt, but I didn't feel them. I'm pretty good with needles. Even heparin twice a day didn't register. Good for testing blood sugar and injecting insulin, but I'm running out of places I haven't poked!

(72,300 posts)Now it seems like I need a lot more care than I knew was necessary.
I am also reclusive, only speaking with cashiers and toll collectors on my rare outings.
I ran out of virgin places to poke with a needle long ago. While I don't aim for the same injection spot but the shots are close.

(63,912 posts)and I can't wait! It means so much relief will be coming my way!
I was a huge baby when the doc gave me the first shots but the pain and disability caused by the arthritis had me ready for just about anything I could get for relief! The pills caused me to feel loopy and I hated them (Tramadol made me so dizzy I couldn't walk).
I am now resolved to being a big girl, staying still and not wriggling and smiling at the nurse when the doc is shooting me up from in back of me. I hope he can do one for my left knee, too.
Falling apart, I am...
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)It's wonderful that you can feel better for a while. How often must you repeat the treatments?
Good luck on getting help with your knee.
Sometimes I'll put up with small pain to avoid one big pain that would put an end to my small pain. I'm really a coward when I know it's gonna hurt. I think I started falling apart about 15 years ago.

It's all good. Really.

(10,237 posts)Dr. Frankenstein gave me a flu shot there last year with meat thermometer. Yeah a meat thermometer ! hope you feel better. Does amonia help like a bee sting. ?
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)Heh I don't even get prescriptions from CVS.
Sorry about your bad shot last year.
I've never tried amonia.

"Never felt it."
Was it an analog or digital meat thermometer?

(149,611 posts)The pneumonia shot usually hurts at least a little bit because there are many viruses in the fluid. I think the fluid volume is larger than for most shots, too.
Time will cure it, and in the meantime, I am sorry it's hurting you.
Gentle for you!

I'm talking about the shot, the hypodermic needle.
Also, thermometers.
Brings back pleasant childhood memories.

(2,682 posts)and my arm didn't hurt afterwards. However, for the next five days, I was sick -- felt like a cold with a headache. While I think it's total bullshit that a flu shot doesn't make you sick, I sure as hell am a believer that getting the flu is even worse. Last year, without a flu shot, I acquired H1N1 flu and nearly died from it (literally -- it caused congestive heart failure -- back to normal now). So, I'll put up with the affect of the shot as a trade-off for not getting the flu again.

(70,686 posts)As in, "One, two, three..." and I felt next to nothing, thinking it was a great practitioner. Then AFTER the countdown, JAB!1
But there's always a joker, usually a dude. Once when there was a new nurse doing the jabbing, I said, "Are you the one who's not going to hurt me?" and he said, "No, that guy's out. You got me today!1"
