School ends and the job search begins.

My strategy has been to go to my current employer after I get my degree to see if I can upgrade my position there. If that didn't work out, I'd start looking elsewhere. But today I realized that it would be a good idea to look elsewhere, initially. If I have more than one job offer it can increase my leverage in negotiations. I have done that before with my trucking position and gotten a nice raise that way. That was from the owner of the current company I work for so I know the guy will deal with you if he likes you.

I looked at Craigslist not really expecting to find anything, but I did find two opportunities that were right up my alley. A management position at a nearby trucking company and a safety management position at another nearby trucking company. My background is in truck driving and I have completed a business degree. I would think I would make a natural fit in a trucking company's management team. The safety manager position really intrigues me. I would be putting all of my skills as a trucker and a business person into that. I'm really hoping I get a call from them.

Knowing you have other opportunities seriously strengthens your negotiating position, not to mention your confidence going in.
