.....what think ye of Lady Edith's latest romp?

(130,908 posts)She's got her little girl to care for, and I hope it works for her. Family's gone, and she has a business to run.

(2,682 posts)I think this move isn't going to work for her either. She has some fantasy about living happily ever after with her child but she has absolutely NO experience with children, having been brought up with Nannies and her niece and nephew sequestered in the nursery. She will quickly become frustrated and will then struggle with the idea that she has made yet another mistake. I think ultimately she will have to acknowledge the child to her family and the little girl will go to the nursery with her cousins. If Edith is ever to find a new man and marry, she will have to cook up a story that she and Michael were secretly married thus making the child appear legitimate and preserving her own virtue.
Do you watch Manner of Speaking, the post-Downton discussion program?

(50,130 posts).....about how to get Edith a fake marriage certificate. What a jolly nursery, with three little ones. Maybe she and Tom ought to get together; that was a nice moment between them.

(2,682 posts)They work so well together on estate business and they have similar goals about preserving the estate. Edith will probably have to meet a distinguished gentleman from a good family, but otherwise unknown to anyone at Downton.

(22,298 posts)and she's downright mean to Edith.
It's one thing to be blase about Edith's fiance's death, quite another to breeze in with a bobbed haircut & steal attention that should have been shown to Edith on that day. Uncalled for & I'm shocked her grandmother didn't call her on her BS.
She had no call to make light of Edith's mourning, especially after the way she carried on after Matthew died.
I know these 2 don't like each other, but Mary has really been a bitch to her sister this season.
