A few weeks ago I found a Facebook group called People United to Promote the Proper Identification of English Setters and hubby put up some of these pictures to the group.
A woman replied and said that he looked just like one of her dogs puppies. At this point, all we knew about Duke was that he was surrendered in West Virginia. Strange coincidence, This woman was from W. Va too and her Dogs name was Sadie May. That kinda made me curious as Duke had a sister at our shelter called Ellie may. I told her that and what Duke original name was and we were all shocked that it was indeed her former dog.
She was going thru a lot of things in her life and could not keep three dogs. So she felt the best thing was to surrender them with a guarantee that they would find good homes. She still has the momma Dog, Sadie.
She is so happy about this and we are going to try to find out where Ellie may have went.
The very best part is that she took tons of pictures of him growing up. Just yesterday Hubby and I were wondering what he looked like as a puppy.
So here is a picture of Duke as a puppy!
The chances of this happening are amazing! I have been given permission to post even more pictures!
That is Duke in the middle.

(11,589 posts)It's truly amazing.
We told her that if she ever finds herself in our area, she is more than welcome to visit and have Duke hang with his Mom for a while.
I have a feeling that his sister is in the area. suddenly friends are telling me that they have seen another dog that looks a lot like him.
SQUEE!

(11,589 posts)I know that this (Alexandria Welfare league) shelter is really good with adoptions, so I think we are going to find her eventually. English Setters are not really common in our area so we will see.
It would be nice to make new friends to share this really amazing story.

(9,966 posts)concerns a neighborhood English setter. Her name was Lillian. We lived in veterans' housing in Richmond, CA, and I was 3 or 4 years old at the time. Lillian belonged to some neighbor, I don't know who, and was very friendly. I have a memory of sitting on a trash can out in back of our building, sharing a sandwich with Lillian. She was such a sweetie! Your boy looks much like her.
