we have actually gone through a few cats since my last post. Just been busy and they were quick turns.
Here is our current crop.
Strudel - we don't like the name, but she's a 5 year old calico who was tossed away from her family. Poor thing. She's a really lovely cat, enjoys affection greatly. she sleeps at my wife's feet and we think she believes she is in her forever home. We can't take in anymore permanent residents. That said she is welcome to stay until her forever family adopts her.
She tolerates our dog over any of our cats or the other fosters. When the other cats get a little too close she will take a swipe at them. Nothing serious, just a little "stay outta my way" thing.

This is Montigue - again we don't like his name. He's a manx cat, note the lack of tail. When he does come out of hiding and we see him moving, he almost hops like a rabbit, so we obviously want to rename him Rabbit. He came to us after being neutered and ended up with a bad infection and had to go to the emergency vet to get a catheter put in and some meds. He was there for about 4 days and was finally able to come back to us. He is using the litter regularly, which is obviously good, and eating(not a ton) and drinking.
He is extremely shy. He stays in our spare room and literally hides in the covers of the bed all day and night. We try and bring him out to get him used to the world, but he will run under the couch or back to his room. It will take some time, and we have the patience for him.

And of course, we have a kitten - this is Annie.
Annie is full of piss and vinegar and loves playing with our Poe. Poe is kind of our ambassador of foster cats for our house.
She is quite affectionate as well, knows when it's time to settle down and loves cuddles. She really loves sleeping between my wife and I's pillows, that is until she sees someones feet move, then she will go into attack mode.

Overall, a good bunch again, and it's always so much fun to take these guys in, get to know their personalities and then see them go to their forever homes successfully.

(11,770 posts)We adopted a Rumpy 5 years ago. He's 'normal' for the part, but has the odd back feet posture, and digestive issues. (No catnip for one)
It took two years of me making his food, and weekly trying out canned and dry, until we finally found both the canned and dry, he liked and tolerated. Once we found a commercial food that worked (he still gets one or a combo of boiled chicken/liver/red meat daily), we have to be extremely careful of ANY new food introduced or change in diet. The slightest change in our guy's diet can loosen his stool and make for difficult evacuation and cat-butt washing, which then = deep claw cuts in human arms, backs, etc... it's awful.
There will be an occasional 'turd drop'. He will be just walking through a room, and a turd will fall out. He's always very surprised and seems embarrassed, then tries to cover it.
Manx are for owners who are in it for life and completely dedicated to that cat.
Thank you for fostering... it really takes a rare incredible heart to love and release. You have my admiration.

(4,338 posts)He's a really nice guy, just so bloody shy. Or what seems like shy.
I think the good thing about our home and fosters is it is a pretty normal home. Lots of animals so they learn to get along. 5 litter boxes throughout the house that are cleaned daily.
We aren't a loud family by any means, but I've been told I can be a little loud at times.

(50,566 posts)I actually think the name "Strudel" is adorable -- and so is the kitty it is attached to.
Thanks for helping these wonderful kitties!
