I can't believe Rhode Island wasn't Dumb And Dumber.

(3,747 posts)That film is how film should be done. The big movie studios are all consolidated now as well.

I would have thought the #1 movie set in Delaware would have been 'Dead Poets Society'. "Carpe Diem" would have been such a better motto for our state!

(7,720 posts)have been set in North Dakota, but my guess is not many since there were only about three scenes in "Fargo" that were set in North Dakota.

(6,113 posts)Top movie "set" in the state?! I can think of a lot of possibilities starting with "Blue Velvet".

(29,149 posts)I know it was shot there, but I don't remember the town being clearly set in any specific state. Been a while since I've seen it, though.
Cape Fear, on the other hand, is explicitly in North Carolina, and is rated higher on IMDB than George Washington is. So I think you're right that they got that one wrong.

(6,113 posts)I had forgotten Cape Fear.

(95,337 posts)Chaplin at his best. If you watch it make sure you get the original and not the reissue where he added narration. I don't like that one.

(34,136 posts)Doesn't Minnesota rate a top rated film of its own?
Oh - Fargo is mostly set in Minnesota. And few significant films have been made in North Dakota: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_set_in_North_Dakota
Let North Dakota have Fargo. Minnesota can claim Field of Dreams or any number of good movies made there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_set_in_Minnesota

(11,843 posts)The farm at least. They did roadtrip to Chisholm to pick up Moonlight Graham, but that's insignificant compared to the farm, where the titular field was.
Fargo was almost entirely set in Minnesota, with only the place where Jerry meets Carl and Gaear being just over the border in Fargo, and Jerry getting arrested at the end in Bismarck. Despite the title, the move Fargo is Minnesota.

(34,136 posts)According to the link in my other post. Maybe the story is in Iowa but it was made in Minnesota?
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)Your link is for movies Set in states. For some reason, Field of Dreams is not listed on the page for Massachusetts, but the scenes in Boston were at least as significant as the scenes in Chisholm.
IMDB has it filmed in various places in Iowa and Boston. The road trip to Chisholm did look like Northern Minnesota, but could have been just about anywhere. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097351/locations?ref_=tt_dt_dt
The movie is mostly set in Iowa.
Wikipedia lists it as being filmed in Iowa, Boston and Galena, Illinois as Chisholm.
"Primary shot locations were in Dubuque County, Iowa; a farm near Dyersville was used for the Kinsella home; an empty warehouse in Dubuque was used to build various interior sets. Galena, Illinois served as Moonlight Graham's Chisholm, Minnesota.[5] One week was spent on location shots in Boston, most notably Fenway Park.[7]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_Dreams

Also, Lonesome Dove was a tv miniseries, not a film.

(27,247 posts)Specifically, Fort Smith and Yell County.
For Oklahoma, I would suggest "Silkwood".
Also, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" was set in Texas, while "For a Few Dollars More" starts out in New Mexico, wends its way into El Paso, and finally ends up in Mexico.
