He is 21 and has advanced cardiomyopathy. He has been on an LVAD for six months. I work for the local county legislature. This morning we had a press conference. We did a resolution declaring April "Organ Donation Awareness" month. He was at the press conference, along with a young woman who received a transplant in 1996 and a mother who donated her son's s after he died in a tragic accident.
The karma is astounding. Please pray or whatever works for you for them and for their donor and his family. And please please please sign up to be an organ donor. There is good we can do even when we are gone.

(62,411 posts)can't think of a more wonderful gift than organ donation.
No one wants to die, but in tragedy there can be a real ray of hope for some other human.
A wish that the family of the donor has peace and understand what a wonderful thing he or she did.
My drivers license says I am a donor - been giving blood for a while.

(30,736 posts)the shock and loss of the unexpected death of her husband. She made sure all his wishes for organ donation were followed.
We will feel his loss forever, but other families will have their loved ones around for a lot longer because of his unselfishness.

(14,691 posts)I'm registered in NYS as an organ donor. They can have whatever's still in working order when I'm gone.

(4,913 posts)He had complications with his blood pressure, but they used an ecmo machine and he is much improved this morning. Awake and responsive, pressure improving, in stable condition. The donor was a 27 year old man who died of a heroin overdose, which tragically is becoming all too common. I will keep you updated. Thanks for all the good wishes.

(4,913 posts)He is improving every day. He is still on a ventilator so he cannot speak yet, but he wrote a note to his mother saying this is the best he has felt in 5 years.
His numbers are improving. They are hoping he will be extubated today or tomorrow.
Thanks for the continued good wishes.
Remember, you can give the gift of life.
