I saw it Tuesday night as a Rifftrax Live event.
Oh man......
When people call it the "Citizen Kane" of bad movies.....well, it's a really good description.

(1,893 posts)I didn't know the Rifftrax guys had done it. I just looked at the clip on their site. OMG, the guy with the long dark hair... as soon as he opened his mouth I almost coffee-sprayed.
I really need to see this. It looks like you have to buy the movie separately and then buy the Rifftrax commentary and try to sync them up. Bummer! Might be worth it though. They have, on occasion, made me laugh so hard I was incapacitated. Looks like "The Room" might be able to do that on it's own, judging from the clip.

(27,115 posts)As a result I missed the tuxedo - football scene!!
guess I'll have to buy the Rifftrax thing to do it at home!!

(1,893 posts)At one point I laughed so hard I had one of those coughing episodes that wouldn't stop (don't know if that happens to anyone but me). Totally worth it.
I don't know what the tuxedo-football scene is, but I take it it's an infamously bad scene - the apex/nadir of the film, as it were. Kind of like the pool scene in Showgirls. I'd read about it, people described it to me, but no no no - it wasn't until I finally saw the movie last year that I truly understood.
Sounds like The Room might give Showgirls a run for it's money in the unintentional laughs department.

(10,237 posts)so ot must be up there in super stinker film land .
Its amazing how so many completed projects get finished now because production costs are a gazzionth of what they used to be .
Coventina
(27,115 posts)and so the film has pretty good production values, all things considered.
It tries so hard, and fails so spectacularly.
It really is in a class of its own.
The male co-star wrote a book about the experience, that might be the book you saw.

(11,833 posts)while abruptly shifting his attention to the left of frame provides the perfect mis en scene for the jarring dramatic dislocation between the actor's thoughts and actions, and so completely lacking in the movie itself, as symbolized by the empty stairwell in mid-frame.

(1,561 posts)... But no theaters in the area were showing it. I take it from your reaction that Mike, Kevin, & Bill are still hilarious. Their Film Crew videos were great too. Long live MST3K.
Coventina
(27,115 posts)They are a great way to bring in a solid crowd on a weekday night.
And soooo much fun. They often have a short, just like MST3K.
The one before "The Room" was worth the admission price alone.
And, it's so fun to watch them work live.
