Labor Day Labor Day was celebrated for the first time in New York City in 1882. It was originally celebrated on September 5th, but was moved to the first Monday in September in 1884. Labor Day started out as a state holiday, getting voted in by individual states, but gained popularity and was voted a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/To Omaha Steve and the many that post at the Omaha Steve Labor Group and to all the workers out there!
National Acorn Squash Day Even though considered a winter squash, acorn squash belongs to the same species as all summer squashes including zucchini and yellow crookneck squash.
The acorn squash that is dark green in color, often with a splotch of orange on its side or top, is the most common variety, however there are newer varieties including the Golden Acorn and the White Acorn. They can also be variegated in color.
The shape of the squash resembles that of its name, an acorn. They usually weigh between one to two pounds and are normally between four to seven inches long. Acorn squash is a hardy squash that can be saved and last throughout the winter, keeping for several months, when stored in a cool, dry location.
Prepared in different ways for consumption, the acorn squash can be baked, microwaved, sautéed or steamed. It is often prepared stuffed with rice, meat, cheeses or vegetable mixtures. The seeds of the squash can be toasted, eaten and enjoyed. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/
Grandma Moses Day A renowned American folk artist, Grandma Moses first started painting in her 70′s.
Known to her family and friends as Mother Moses or Grandma Moses and actually she first exhibited using the name Mrs. Moses, the press eagerly dubbed her Grandma Moses, which stuck and stayed with her.
Anna Mary Robertson Moses (September 7, 1860 December 13, 1961) is an example to us all of an individual who successfully began a career in the arts at an advanced age. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Buy a Book Day TV and movies have taken over our lives these days. Thats not to say that watching certain TV shows or movies is a waste of our timethere are many well-made, thought-provoking things to be watched. And of course, thanks to Kindle, carrying even multiple books around at the same time has become infinitely easier and more practical. Still, however, it is a bit sad how the the old-fashioned art of reading a regular paper book seems to be slowly fading away into the past. It sometimes seems as though children today do not even know the scent of an old book, a book that has touched the lives of so many, and how wonderful it can be to settle down on the couch with such a book on a rainy day and disappear into the world it creates. Buy a Book Day was created for the purpose of reminding people how much joy simple black print on a white background can bring when it awakens your imagination and transports you far away. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/buy-a-book-day/
