My brother LOVES Chicago pizza# (who doesn't?) I need to order today to get it to California for his birthday.
Which do you think is better?

(374 posts)Lou Malnati's of the 2. My favorite is Connies in Naperville and Westmont.

(17,997 posts)Used to live in Downers Grove. Been to that Connie's a few times. But I do like the two I posted.
Thanks again!

(12,132 posts)and we were there for only four hours. In that time I had enough room for pizza and an italian beef sandwich. They were both from Giordano's and they were terrific.
I regret I didn't have time or stomach room for a Chicago dog in Chicago.
I hope I get to go back and try the things I missed the first time but in the meantime, that Giordano's was certainly great. as much as people fight about the two, I bet they are both pretty great.
Just get what you can and repackage it in a generic container.
No matter what you decide, you're an awesome sister.

(17,997 posts)What a nice reply.
You really should go to Chicago for a couple weeks and check out the museums, the lake front, the street fests and the good. Oh my god the food!
Thank you again! And right back at you!

(12,132 posts)...from the 35 dollar parking spot to walking around in the freezing cold (lol, I say freezing because it was below 60 - us florida folk ain't used that - we went into some huuuuuge department store and bought my wife a coat)(she hasn't needed it since but we are ready when the next El Niño messes up the weather). And I mean all that sincerely - I loved it. It was thanksgiving weekend so the city was all dressed up.
It's very high on our list of places to spend more time. I have a cousin up there now and we hope to avail ourselves of his facilities while roaming the city with a lot more time.

(17,997 posts)LOL! I remember it getting into the low 60s, high 50s while in Ft Lauderdale once. Someone, a grown person, looked out the window and said, "it's snowing!" Uhm. Not so much.
It's a beautiful, great city and I already miss it. But most of my family is out here and I can't take another Chicago winter.

(12,650 posts)San Diego has "Lefty's Chicago Pizzaria" which from what Chicago natives tell me is as good as the best you can get in Chicago. Both deep-dish and flat pizzas. The owner gets Chicago meats and other produce to make the most authentic possible..

I'm not usually one for Chicago style, but they do make good pies.
Now, for New York style, the best is Pizzaria Luigi's, which actually won best New York Pizza nation wide a couple years ago.

Your brother can always come down here to San Diego for his b-day..

(17,997 posts)But thanks.
Sounds like Lefty's Pizza knows what they're doing. Next time I'm down that way, I will definitely stop there.
New York pizza is good, but it's not as good as Chicago pizza (begin the new pizza wars )
I very much appreciate your information!

(33,688 posts)Had it once in Chicago and it was great. Gonna try it here when the crowds thin out a bit.
For New York style Lombardi's reigns supreme.

(17,997 posts)I hope they do it as well up there as they do in Chicago. Really good stuff. I lived a block from a Giordanos and had it about once a week. Miss it.
I haven't had Malnatis in a long time though so I couldn't remember which is better

(17,997 posts)Omd I miss good pizza!
I should open one here. Even the pizza they think is good, sucks in comparison to real Chicago pizza!

(17,997 posts)I realize that Malnati's won this thread, but Giordanos is $9 cheaper for the cheapest thing.
When I ordered from the Lincoln Square Giordanos, I tried to make it on a Wednesday. For whatever reason, I usually ordered on a Sunday or Wednesday. There was a big difference in the pizza. Different chefs I'm assuming.
But even the Sunday pizza was heads and shoulders above anything here!
Thank you for your input

(70,090 posts)it depends on the person's tastes. if they are meat lovers, then lou's. if they are smarter than that, giordono's.
unfortunate that you cant get one from the little places around. live around the corner from a place called nueva italy that is THE best pizza ever. gets here in a flash, too.

(17,997 posts)You should try Pizza Rustica. They have the best Italian food in the city. It's family owned and they're from Italy.
They close for three weeks or a month every fall when they go back to Italy. The chefs actually have further education there and come back with even better stuff.
They're on Sheridan at about Irving Park. Right near the redline stop.
Thank you!
