The rhythm guitarist on this track was George Bellamy of The Tornados, who is the father of Muse lead singer Matthew Bellamy.

this Muse song uses the same rhythm according to Matt Bellamy

I had that one, too.

The memories are streaming now! I was just watching Love It or List It - they had to upgrade a classic 1960s House,

Now this!

I remember listening to Telstar sitting in my aunt's kitchen in San Antonio. We lived in Houston - Space City USA!

Plagiarism claim
A French composer, Jean Ledrut, accused Joe Meek of plagiarism, claiming that the tune of "Telstar" had been copied from "La Marche d'Austerlitz", a piece from a score that Ledrut had written for the 1960 film Austerlitz. This led to a lawsuit that prevented Meek from receiving royalties from the record during his lifetime, and the issue was not resolved in Meek's favour until three weeks after his suicide in 1967.

"French composer Jean Ledrut falsely accused Meek of plagiarism, claiming that the tune of "Telstar" had been copied from "La Marche d'Austerlitz", a piece from a score Ledrut had written for the 1960 film Austerlitz, and which had little similarity to "Telstar". This lawsuit meant Meek never received royalties from the record during his lifetime."

"The lawsuit against Meek was ruled in his favour three weeks after his death in 1967. It is unlikely that Meek was aware of Austerlitz, as it had been released only in France at the time."

Can't really see/hear much resemblance.

"Mr Mike's Mondo Video." Naturally, being O'Donoghue, he wrote some very strange lyrics for it.

My sister wanted this song played at her wedding!

I used to have the original album, I wish I still had it...

There's actually a video of the Tornadoes performing this!
