A question about airplanes ---

Just watching the Pope's plane taxi for take-off, and noticed a flag fluttering on the nose of the plane. Does it remain there for the flight?

1. I wouldn't think so. 540 mph can certainly rip a flag to shreads. ??

2. If it was like this, I imagine the pilots pull the flag in and close the windows before flight:

3. In this video - Pope leaving Cuba -

(I didn't watch the ceremony or him getting on plane - just cut to the chase)- you can see the plane heading down the runway with the flags still outside the windows. At around 32:00 the plane stops and they take the flags inside.

little about it myself. When this taxiing went on for a several minutes I was beginning to think maybe they just left them out there to be knocked off.
