Seriously considering disconnecting from the Tubes
Our longtime ISP is no more after this month and the only options available in this area are beyond our reach. I considered using our Tracfone service with bottom of the barrel Android phones, but the rates for any appreciable data don't add up. Pandora + just a few YouTube or news videos daily? Get out the credit card.
I can understand that folks who rely heavily on Facebook/Twitter connections and social media can't be without it, but that's not us. I'm beginning to edge away from the idea that life without an internet equals a caveman existence, and it seems many in the US agree.
What I experience day to day online seems to be saturated with endless maddening and heartbreaking stories stemming from the rage of humans; self-described experts and authorities casting their opinions on what can be done about it; the horror of an entire political party ready for a padded room with elevator music; an ever increasing rush of advertising for unnecessary plastic objects; and Kardashianism - celeb "news" pervades everywhere now, unceasingly.
Who needs it?
