The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe artist/song you once loved that you are sick to death of hearing now.
If you are of a certain age, you heard classic rock music when it was new, fresh, and -- frankly -- awesome. The Beatles, The Who, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, The Temptations, Led Zeppelin, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Elton John, Aerosmith -- I could go on.
Now - whether it's in a car devoid of a CD/MP3 player; out shopping at the store; waiting in the doctor's office; or at work -- we still hear the same songs -- over, and over, and over, and over. Musically, it's Groundhog Day.
What are the songs you once loved that you now wish could be given a rest for 5-10 years?
I will offer these (There are, of course, dozens of others):
The Logical Song by Supertramp
Jack & Diane by John Cougar Mellencamp
Piano Man, Big Shot, You May Be Right, and Only the Good Die Young by Billy Joel
Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions by Queen

(39,343 posts)I used to like both of them, but they've soured as of late for me.

(5,790 posts)I still here it on "classic rock" playlists, but -- with notable exceptions - the 60s and early 70s stuff is being relegated to AM oldies stations as the classic rock stations now are working in more 80s hair band and early 90s grunge era music.

(32,081 posts)I have also grown to despise "Freebird." If I never hear it again, I will not be sad.

(5,790 posts)I'm still pretty much fine with other Lynyrd Skynyrd, like Gimme Three Steps, Gimme Back My Bullets, and Saturday Night Special
I just saw Elton John three weeks ago (great show). Like Billy Joel, he's an artist I generally think of in a positive light, but who has had certain hit songs overplayed.

(5,790 posts)1) At this point, what constitutes "oldies" in terms of time frame
2) Is the station on AM or FM -- I ask because in this part of the world, I now hear some AM stations playing 60s/70s music.

For whatever reason, I don't get sick of Sweet Emotion but they play the Hell out of it.
