Getting a GPS device repaired

There are any number of services - online and in person - where you can get an electronic device repaired - computers, iphones, Android phones, ipads, tablets, etc.

I have found it almost impossible to find a service online that will repair GPS devices. Maybe that's because they are relatively inexpensive. Who knows?

In any case, I have a Tomtom GPS that needs a new USB port and can't find anyone who can make that repair, which appears to require fine motor skills and soldering. I break things and would probably set the house of fire with a soldering iron. And I don't want to spend the "relatively" low price of $150 or so to replace my GPS.

Does anyone know of a company/individual who can do this work? BTW, I found the company online that sells GPS batteries and the one that repairs GPS devices but only 1 or 2 models of each mfr.

Thanks.

If you just need a new USB connector soldered in I would look at computer repair places. PoliticAverse Oct 2015 #1

This would probably be something they've done before on laptops.

If the replacement part is available.

You might be lucky if you check out some of the local cell-phone repair people, there might be someone 'geeky' enough to try it for the challenge.
