(17,621 posts)She objects to these aspersions being cast on her kind. She subscribes to the Mark Twain philosophy about the feline race: "If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve the man but deteriorate the cat."

(12,496 posts)I just got a chuckle out of it. A non-catlover's sardonic witticism.

(12,272 posts)I think I have been very lucky with my feline friends.

(12,496 posts)Mine have all been sweethearts.
But the truth is, many people who aren't cat lover don't understand them. You have to have lived with them to gain an intuition about them.
And I ascribe to the "more I know people, the more I love my cat." (And probably vice versa!!)

(50,566 posts)I think most cats are friendly and affectionate if people know how to treat them well and how to interact with kitties.

(24,774 posts)My roomie and his now deceased companion rescued them from a drainage ditch when they were about a week old; otherwise, they would have drowned. There was a third kitten who sadly did not survive
Apparently, from what I was told, they either someone put them there to be left to die or they were feral kittens left there by their mother while she went out hunting. They're now 4, almost 5 (brother and sister), and get along with Max, but the female, Sammy, doesn't get along with Ruby.

(12,496 posts)But only because I'm a catlover. I think most non-cat persons would nod their heads agreeing with it. I just thought it was funny.
I think it's fear--you know, the kind where people who don't understand cats think they're plotting to take over the world.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)to give you loving. Cats love on you, but not like dogs----they are more subtle.
And they would plot to take over the world, if they could figure out how to open a can. As it is, they are satisfied to leave us share their space.

(6,145 posts)I call my cat "cleo". My cat calls me "the help".
I think we're clear on our roles now.

(206,104 posts)My friend in rescue is irritated when people judge cats by their colors. Two of my three cats have happened to be black... It was only good luck for both of us when they found me.
