send a getwell message to my DEMOCRAT friend recovering from open heart surgery?

I have a dear friend who is the best progressive Democrat I know outside of DU. He is 5 1/2 weeks postop from open heart surgery for replacement of his congenital defect aortic valve and removal of a benign tumor on the heart.

He has been through the wringer.

The surgery starts with draining all your blood from your body, chilling you on ice to 70 degrees, cutting open your chest, stopping your heart -- and then you are on the heart-lung machine which creates its own problems. There may be many after effects, and he has had many of them. A-fib, permanent pacemaker at 7 days, then this, that, and the other thing. And a LOT of pain. Most recently now, pleural effusion and pneumonia.

He is a strong, vigorous man. But he has been through the wringer.

I'm wondering if any good DU-er would like to post a joke, or a cartoon, or a greeting, or a bit of encouragement here, and I will print it and get it to him. His name is David. David the Democrat.

And I am thanking you gratefully in advance.

When David had work on his heart
The mess nearly tore him apart
But he tossed off his frown,
Said, “this WON’T get me down,
“So look out, world, here comes a fresh start!”

I told him yesterday that the ladies prayer group at my cousin's Episcopal church are praying for him. I assumed that he would scoff, but he actually was grateful. That tells me his state of mind. Sick of being sick.

You were brave to do this surgery. I respect you and admire you for undergoing this procedure. Be patient with yourself and those trying to help you. Sounds as if this is going to take some time. I send you lots of hope and many prayers.

Dear David the Democrat,

Wow, you have indeed been through the wringer. I send healing thoughts and prayers to you with the hope that you are on the mend and this will soon be behind you. Stay strong and keep thinking and visualizing yourself well. I think we have more power over illness than we know. God bless you. HUGS and best wishes to you.

so patience my friend. Take every drug the docs recommend (including the anti-depressants), follow the exercise and diet recs, and own your new life.

You will survive this and go on to become the bad ass you always knew you were!!

Its just very rough.

The recovery is so hard. The docs don't understand the correlation between heart surgery and depression but its very real. Something changes in the body chemistry. Just a forewarning...

You're a great friend grasswire!
