It kind of gets me a little choked up thinking about it.

Only 993 drummers turned up!!!

Didn't see Golden Earring that time.

They often play in the village where I live (about 20 km south of Rotterdam). It's become pretty much a fixture on their calendar. It's a kick off for the local football (soccer) season.

From your description it sounds like you might be in Zeeland -- an area I know pretty well from cycling around the country some years back. I'm trying to work out which Dutch football team you're near: Excelsior, Sparta, Dordrecht, NAC?

Heading to The Hague for a wedding this Monday, btw. On Delta, sadly...

I live in Zuid Holland. OK, no problem.

And I think you're missing one big team.

Starts with 'F' and ends with 'eyennoord'.

But have a great time in Den Haag. All the best to the lucky couple.

Just to answer your question...

Excelsior, Sparta are Rotterdam based teams

Dordrecht is based in a city not far from Rotterdam called Dordrecht.

And NAC is based in Breda, about 45kms from Rotterdam. Speaking of Breda, have you ever her heard of Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk?

And when are you going to jump the English Channel?

Naturally, I'll be visiting my family in Brummistan and my astro-physicist nephew and his three grand nephew and nieces in Bath as well.

Not that I particularly want to. I'll be honest, visiting the UK these days makes me massively depressed....

I'll come look up you antipodes next year some time to refocus. No, calm down, I'm serious. I'll be renting a van and driving around for a few months...
