Have you ever melted a cabinet floor?

I need to figure out who does this kind of repair.

We had a leak under our kitchen sink many moons ago, and didn't realize it - until one day I reached for something way back in the cabinet, and it came out dripping. The bottle wasn't broken. I looked in - and found a puddle. Apparently the leak had been there for some time. The floor of the cabinet was melted and now most of it is a crater.

We made do with a stiff board across the crater. But now we're selling our house. We need to get a new cabinet floor.

I've pinged a handful of cabinet companies on Angie's List, and the first one came back with "we don't do partial jobs." That makes me wonder if they're all going to say that.

Do you have any idea who would do this kind of repair?

an excellent job. the sink is on angle. therefore the cabinet under it is also at angle (think almost pie slice shaped). He cut two boards, each 1/2 the size of the slice, put them in, side by side, sealed the center and then put a great linoleum tile over the wood. looks good and clean up is easy.

Mrs. V. was looking for help at the same time as I was. She hired someone already - says she's confident about him. He's going to have to do the same thing as yours, to install two boards and seal them together.

That's a way to find a handyman or three that will bid on your job right quick.

I've repaired quite a few too, especially when I was working for a scummy landlord of decrepit student housing.

Any good handy-person will do jobs like this.

Carpenters and cabinet makers want big jobs and big money.

Good luck!

The sink cabinet was all plastic except for the wood face frame. It was like a plastic tub.

Neat idea.

It caused a little trouble because it had extra ribbing for strength. The sink the client purchased on their own that "fits a 33 inch cabinet" didn't fit THAT 33 inch cabinet.

But be aware, they'll need to re-frame the kitchen sink structure to repair the damage you describe. It shouldn't be too hard, if there's enough room, or if the cabinet base was built as modular units.

Check to see if your base cabinets are modular units. If that's the case, you might be able to purchase a kitchen sink cabinet kit, and hire someone to replace your existing sink structure without messing up the other modules.

I had to remodel my kitchen base cabinets when we bought the double-wide and do the work myself due to our budget. Since I had to replace the 1970's original sink and Formica countertops on the 3-module sink counter, it took me a week of working evenings and the weekend to:
1) remove the countertop and sink,
2) cut the original cabinet base in thirds,
3) build a new apron sink frame for the center (the cabinet doors on the wall unit over the refrigerator worked as replacement doors because I prefer shelves to cabinets over the fridge) and re-attach to the wall and two remaining sections (which made them stronger, also!)
4) and put the new counter-top on, and mount the new sink to the countertop and base.
Call in the plumber to plumb everything up, and I now have a really nice new-looking sink.
Since we were still living in the rental at the time, it was easier to do. And I also made my own 1" thick "butcher-block" countertop of alternating walnut, oak, and maple, which turned out really, really nice.
Can't even see the many little mistakes I made unless you look really, really closely, and the whole thing ended up costing around $600(the materials, plumber, sink and faucet) 60 hours of my own jack cabinetry skills with various saws, drills, levels, glue and a kreig jig, and a day dedicated to finishing (painting and sealing).

But check the handymen on Angies list rather than the carpenters - or maybe check out to a woodworker's hobby group or a maker's group. You should be able to find someone who knows how to do more than frame carpentry and will do that sort of job.

I can't imagine doing work like that on my own. Good for you!

Mrs. V. hired someone yesterday. After talking to him, she's confident in his ability. She's the one who usually handles hiring folks to work in the house, so I trust her judgement.
