Her new toy is a ball of soft brown fur just a few months old, named Charlie. My hairdresser says his housebreaking isn't going too well but he is still a puppy really (I find it hard to know because that breed is so small to begin with). He's very friendly (Eliot was not too interested in making friends) though and playful.
She says she still thinks of Eliot but the pain of that sudden, terrifying loss is somewhat eased by having Charlie around all the time.
I'm going to try to remember to pick up a chewy toy for him before my next haircut...

(20,190 posts)Since he's small, they might be the best option. You can get ones that are scented with an attractant that will make the pup want to "go" on them. Here are some tips:

Here are the ones we used:
http://www.amazon.com/Four-Wee-Wee-Puppy-Housebreaking-150-Pack/dp/B002VS6PYE/ref=zg_bs_3024225011_2
You can get them at pet stores in smaller packs to try them out, but you'll find the best prices online for the cases.
We used them for an abandoned puppy we found in our parking lot and she used them exclusively in a couple of days. If your friend lives in a two story home, she should have a pad on each floor.

(63,912 posts)puppy for not wanting to go out. His fur is so fine he could get a chill really fast.
I still feel so sorry for my hairdresser. She's a very nice woman who had an abusive husband she divorced and he is embroiling her in a lawsuit so he can get control of her salon. Eliot, and now Charlie, have the little bed right under her counter and she takes Charlie out for brief walks all day. I don't think clients would appreciate wee wee pads in the salon...maybe there is one in back.

(1,965 posts)Nine week old "Papipoo". Half Toy Poodle, half Papillon. We took him out, immediately after playing, eating/drinking waking up. After roughly 3 weeks he'd go sit by the door to be let out. Of course, at that age, he was unable to hold it very long. If we didn't notice him by the door in a couple short moments, there would be a small accident. At least it'd be by the door. By 6 months he could hold it and there's never been another accident.
One of the smartest and most joyful furry buddies we've ever had, and I think we have to attribute much of that to his Toy Poodle side.
