The $1.19 is a test. The next charge will be for a $200 gift card at Walmart. I hope you shut it down.

and stopped more charges before the culprit had a chance to do any damage.
At my request the bank manager cut up the card and ordered a new one. I'll be writing checks for a week or two.

I live in Florida. Chase called me right away.

Funny thing is, I lost my wallet in Ohio two weeks before that, and canceled all my cards that night. The golf course found my wallet the next morning with everything intact. But useless.

The card they used was the new one I had gotten just two days before, and had never used yet.

That sucks that someone did that to you. I'm glad your bank caught it in time.

I can't remember the last time I had to write a check.

I had $1700 in it, all gone within a matter of hours. Not one, but two $350 withdrawals, and two $200 gas purchases, and they also spent like $300 at a grocery store. Thank god the bank put everything back, but still...

I'll make another credit card payment to asap. Oh, and I'll pick up my prescriptions tomorrow because my checkbook was safe at home.

I'm glad your bank took care of everything.

If I had been with a bank that didn't have a fraud department there would have been a lawsuit or two out of that. But I am sure that's why they have fraud departments. But getting my bank account back was a nightmare to say the least.

The bank notified me that there was a suspicious charge. While I was in Seattle charging a movie and dinner on my credit card, someone swiped my credit card for a purchase at a Best Buy ----- in Carmel Indiana (I'm in the Seattle area). The charge was declined at the point of purchase. No charge was actually made to my account so there was not problem for me. Before you get excited that there is a bank so on top of things that a disaster was averted, you need to know that I received the notice last Friday and the declined charge was made LAST SEPTEMBER!!!! I guess I was lucky that no further attempt was made to use what was obviously a fraudulent card.

When he made an ATM withdrawal at our neighborhood bank on Thursday everything was as it should have been.

The ATM bounced his debit card at 5PM yesterday. A quick call to the bank's 800 number was all Mr I_T_W needed to find out that we have work ahead to undo the damage caused by this theft. He put 3 checks in snail-mail on Monday. We will be at the main branch in town this morning to see what can be done to resolve the problems we have now.

If they had tried to purchase something with a lower price tag they might have succeed.
We're probably going to open a new checking account and close the one he has now since whoever tried to use our account has enough information to pull off the scam.

We still have the money we need to cover our meager needs. He'll get a better night's sleep tonight. So, no real harm done this time.

Thanks, femmocrat.

I hate to close Mr I_T_W's checking account but it may be the only safe way to keep this existing account from being robbed again. If there was enough money in his account to cover the purchase someone would be watching a new big screen TV or wearing a new fur coat. We have direct deposits that will have to be changed over.

We got up early to visit the bank this morning. [img][/img] I haven't eaten breakfast yet and it's already lunch time here.
