Input, please (about dogs)

We have 4 pure-bred American Rat Terriers: momma, poppa, son and daughter. Our dogs are fine with people--excitable, but not hurtful. They are not OK with other dogs.

On some occasions, we had walked the dogs with 2 tethered together and have come across another dog, and whatever two dogs are tethered will attack each other because, we think, they feel that they are being hindered from going after the foreign dog.

About 3 months ago, we had son and poppa on the dog run and it broke--the dogs were tethered together. Someone was walking their pit-bull and there was an altercation. We did not see any of it. Poppa had to have staples. We are not sure if the wounds were from the pit-bull or if the poppa & son got into it because they were tethered.

Ever since then, poppa and son can not be left alone together at night. It's only at night.

Never before this pit-bull incident did they have any trouble being in any room together at any time.

Let me add, that when the incident happened, neither male was neutered. They have BOTH been neutered. We were hoping that having them neutered would help. It does not seem to have helped.

I don't particularly like to have a dog in bed with us at night. (I love them, but I don't want to sleep with them.)

Does anyone know what we can do to get them to where they were before the pit-bull incident?

(Is Cesar Milan a DUer?)
