and no - they never close work down here. Believe me I know - and missing counts against your record. Slept at work more than once.

a year or two ago NYC was expecting a big snowstorm (forecast nowhere near 36 inches) and TWC put Cantore in Times Square. A passerby said: Now we know it'll be bad - Cantore's here!

VERY accurate about the "South" South.
Tenn and Virginia and Kentucky and even Arkansas are in the South but they get frequent snow, so do not freak out like people closer to the Gulf do.
and "freak out" is accurate...out of sheer anxiety, people here drive off the road in 1/2 inch of snow.
On a flat road
In town.
where the speed limit is 25.

1-4: Meh

4-8: Where did I put my snow boots?

8-12: Vet the snow blower

12-24: Put the studded tires on the car

24-36: Check if school is cancelled

36+: Picnic table completely buried. Wicked

Any snow at all and every driver in the area suddenly loses what limited ability to drive or park that they had.

My work is very quick to say work from home (I go in anyway because I'm more effective in the office and I know how to drive in snow from living in Colorado).

1-4: Maybe I'd better find some shoes and put away my flip-flops.
4-8: Maybe I should see if I can find a pair of gloves.
8-12: I guess we need to clear off the driveway.
12-24: The cat doesn't want to go outside to hunt; he's just sleeping on a radiator all day.
24-36: The boss doesn't complain if we're a few minutes late for work.
36+: I finally had to start wearing boots.

Apparently the makers of the chart do not know about West Coast snow.

Actually......funny story here.......when I first moved to the South, people naturally asked where I was from, and when I said "Washington"
they thought I meant DC.
then when I said "Washington, on the West Coast" they thought...up "near" Alaska.

Their image of the West Coast was of Cal. and Alaska, and they had no clue about anything in between.

'In United States, Siberia comes to You'.

This after getting unexpected snowfall.
