For anybody who's been deployed: does every APO/FPO mailroom have its own individual elephant?
Or do they have a central elephant stable that they send all packages to for the elephants to walk on? Clearly there is a stage in the package delivery process that includes "make sure an elephant walks on it", but I can't figure out the logistics here.

1. In my day, Mom always packed the cookies in popcorn
Shipped all the way to Vietnam, elephant-proof! It was the precursor of bubble wrap.

2. I believe the Central Elephant is a dark site near Atlanta.
All mail is shipped though there for efficient stomping.

3. I'd received chocolate chip cookies powered so fine I had to stop myself from snorting them.
I wonder if they were able to stuff an elephant in our little ship's (DD-G) mailroom/shipstores.

5. Well, you're in India, yeah?
Lots of elephants there.
The worst story in this regard I ever heard was the guy in Italy during WWII who received two sealed bottles of fine scotch... full of water. Think about it, some bastard not only stole the whisky, but made a special effort to fill the bottles and re-seal them so some schmuck on the front lines could know he'd been done out of it. -- Mal |
