(11,362 posts)... Some of my cookware is considerably older than I am!
As to food, probably something in the spice cabinet, but I can't be absolutely sure.

(11,362 posts)... stove-top waffle iron is more than 100 years old. It'll be useable for a long time after I'm gone too.

Well, I have 15 year old spam, and those horrible little sausage wieners.
Jar of homemade jam my Mom sent me in 1980, can't part with it, she passed away in 2005.

(285 posts)90-year-old cast iron skillets from my grandmother. I still use them. The oldest perishable I have is a huge box of Cream-O-Wheat that I bought in 2004. I'm still eating it. It's almost gone, and I'm not dead yet. And you know, Spam is forever!

(11,546 posts)brown bread in a can. It's about 3 years old. The only reason we have it was because my daughter wanted to try it since I told her of the stories of my family growing up and how my mom always put brown bread in a can on the table at Thanksgiving. We bought two cans and she tried one. That's why the other one is still sitting there.

(12,154 posts)the oldest grocery item in my kitchen was a box of Celestial Seasonings cinnamon-flavored tea from 1977.
Now it's a box of croutons from I don't know when.

The oldest thing is maybe a can of soup a year old or so.

(6,996 posts)I just tossed it. It was half full bottle of brand-name honey that was hidden way back on the shelf. I have things like Cinnamon and Allspice that are probably older but they seem fine.

(115,735 posts)is the kitchen: 1885. And it's hideous and is about to be remodeled. I have already thrown away all of the ancient canned food that got shoved to the back of one of the wretched, soon to be removed cabinets (I found a can of something - beets, I think it was - that was 11 years old).
Come to think of it, I have my mother's copy of "The Joy of Cooking," published in 1946.

(6,996 posts)I forgot about the old cookbooks in my kitchen. I only refer to them occasionally. The oldest is The Woman's Home Companion Cook Book published in 1942 and is a hefty 951 pages!

(3,650 posts)We have it stored in a decorative area; not with the current cans. I do have an old can of spam, but I think it's only 5 years old. Still good eats, I bet!
